About Emer Lavin...
About Emer – for as long as she can remember Emer has felt an affinity with older people and has been interested in care of the elderly.
Emer grew up in Northern Ireland during the Troubles and this experience sparked an interest in equality and human rights. She qualified as a solicitor in 1996 and practised law for a number of years before leaving to have a family in 2004. About this time she also did voluntary work with cancer patients.
Emer became a carer in 2008 when a family member became ill suddenly, although the person has since recovered. By this time Emer had changed direction in her career and worked as a Life Coach. She decided to pursue further study and graduated with a Masters Degree in Public Advocacy in 2015. Emer spent time volunteering as an advocate in local nursing homes speaking with residents and their families.
Emer identified a need for people to plan ahead in relation to eldercare and for families to be able to access independent and impartial advice in relation to the Fair Deal Scheme. With this in mind she etablished Emer Lavin Eldercare in 2018.
